Every year we see our tech gadgets evolving by leaps and bounds. Dive computers are no exception. Some of the features offered in today's entry-level dive computers were reserved for only the most expensive computers just a few years ago. Features such as color LCD screens, rechargeable batteries, integrated air and a digital compass can now be found in computers under $500. Here is our list of best dive computers for beginners:
Peregrine - Shearwater - $495.00
Released last year, the Peregrine has upheld the Shearwater’s reputation of fantastic dive computers. This dive computer is a great choice for a first dive computer or an upgrade from an older one. The simplified menus make navigating the computer easier for beginner divers, while the ability to do Nitrox and 3 gas blends make it useful throughout a diver’s career. The Peregrine supports wireless connectivity, allowing you to download your dives from your dive computer straight to your phone or laptop. Overall the Peregrine is a fantastic, well rounded and durable dive computer.

The bright color screen makes the computer readable in all conditions and with a rechargeable battery, you’ll never have to worry about battery changes. Log your dives directly to your phone via its Bluetooth connection. And with a 2-button menu system, this computer is super simple to operate. Vyper Novo - Suunto - $349.95
The Vyper Novo has been around for a while, but since its drop in price, it has become a great option for beginners. While it doesn’t have the color display or rechargeable batteries offered in the other computers, the Vyper Novo makes up for it by offering the option for air integration and an integrated digital compass. Air integration is a feature often seen in higher end computers and requires the purchase of a separate transmitter, but having the option to upgrade down the line is super convenient.
