Ready to take your mermaid dreams to the next level? The PADI Basic Mermaid course is the perfect way to get started on your mermaiding journey! In this exciting course, you'll build your skills in a pool or confined water site in a safe and supportive environment, guided by a certified PADI Mermaid Instructor, where you'll focus on practicing core mermaid diving techniques. You’ll learn not only how to move gracefully through the water with your mermaid tail but also discover the history and culture of mermaiding, safety tips, and essential skills. It’s an adventure that’s as fun as it is informative!

The Experience: 

• Online eLearning: You’ll begin by completing the PADI Basic Mermaid eLearning to learn key principles, safety practices, and mermaid diving basics. 

• Confined Water Session: Once you’re ready, you’ll jump into the pool (or similar shallow water setting) to practice mermaid diving skills! You’ll focus on essential techniques, problem prevention, and handling, plus learn how to make smooth and controlled mermaid dives.

We’re excited to offer these magical courses year-round in the DC area. Or, for an unforgettable mermaid experience, join PADI Mermaid Instructor Trainer Jen Downey (GalaxSea Mermaid) in the beautiful waters of St. Maarten!

Prerequisites:

• Minimum Age: 6 years and up

• Swimming Skills: You should be able to swim 25 meters (80 feet) comfortably without any aids, float at the surface for at least 3 minutes, and be in good physical health. 

• No prior mermaiding or freediving experience is required.

Equipment

In the Basic Mermaid experience, you’ll have everything you need to feel like a true mermaid:

• Monofin, tailskin, mask, snorkel, and fins. Wetsuits and weight belts with weights are available to add on to your experience. 

• While it’s best to use gear specifically designed for mermaiding, you may be able to use some of your own snorkeling equipment during this session. If you're a freediver, you might already own some gear that's perfect for mermaiding, too!
