The Advanced Mermaid Course with Blue Planet
Elevate your mermaiding experience in open water, while refining and improving your mermaid diving skills.
In the PADI Advanced Mermaid™ course, you’ll build on your PADI Mermaid™ certification and apply it to the open water environment. You’ll learn the basics of how the open water environment differs from a pool or confined water (larger, deeper, more variable conditions) and be introduced to open water mermaiding techniques. You’ll also learn about aquatic life – what to expect, how it can affect you and how you avoid harm.

With the PADI Advanced Mermaid course, you’ll explore new depths, embrace the ocean, rivers, quarries, lakes, and other water ways and become part of the underwater world like never before! Are you ready to take the plunge? This thrilling experience builds on your PADI Mermaid certification, bringing your skills into the open water—where the adventure gets even more dynamic! You'll learn how to navigate larger, deeper, and more variable environments, master advanced mermaiding techniques, and gain a deeper understanding of aquatic life—how to respect it, protect it, and interact safely.
The Experience:

Online eLearning: You’ll begin by completing the PADI Advanced Mermaid eLearning to learn key principles, safety practices, and mermaid diving techniques for open water.

Confined Water Session: As needed, a review session of the PADI Mermaid skills with an emphasis technique and style.

Open water sessions: Here’s where the real magic happens! You'll take your skills into a natural body of water, practicing environmentally friendly mermaid diving techniques while learning to navigate the open water with confidence.
We’re excited to offer these magical courses year-round in the DC area. Or, for an unforgettable mermaid experience, join PADI Mermaid Instructor Trainer Jen Downey (GalaxSea Mermaid) in the beautiful waters of St. Maarten!
Prerequisites:

Minimum Age: 12 years or older can join the adventure!

Swimming Skills: You should be able to swim 100m/320ft without swim aids, float comfortably for 10 minutes, and be in good health.

Equipment
In the PADI Advanced Mermaid experience, you’ll have everything you need to feel like a true mermaid:

Monofin, tailskin, mask, snorkel, and fins. Wetsuits and weight belts with weights are available to add on to your experience.

While it’s best to use gear specifically designed for mermaiding, you may be able to use some of your own snorkeling equipment during this session. If you're a freediver, you might already own some gear that's perfect for mermaiding, too!
