Enriched Air, also known as “nitrox”, is a form of breathing gas that allows divers to extend bottom time and reduce nitrogen loading. It is PADI’s most popular specialty course. PADI Enriched Air Diver Online can be completed in as little as an afternoon. After completing your online learning you’ll apply the knowledge you’ve learned by practicing procedures for obtaining and analyzing enriched air with your PADI Instructor. This certification counts towards the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating.
After enrolling, you’ll learn essential safety concepts and enriched air dive planning and preparation through videos, audio, graphics and reading. Progress through the material at your own pace using a desktop, laptop or mobile device. You’ll complete a knowledge review and exam online.
Once you have completed the online portion of the program, you’ll take your resulting eRecord to your PADI Instructor, who will answer any questions you may have. Your instructor will guide you through the practical application portion of the course—at a minimum, you’ll apply what you’ve learned by analyzing gas and marking and logging cylinder contents.
You’ll learn how use enriched air for no-stop recreational diving with an enriched air compatible dive computer while using enriched air with 22 to 40 percent oxygen; how to analyze the enriched air mix in your scuba cylinder and determine the maximum depth for the blend, how to set the enriched air percentage on your dive computer and how to monitor no-stop limits and oxygen exposure on the dive.
Beyond eLearning, you’ll have a practical session with your PADI Instructor to apply the information you’ve learned. You and your instructor will decide if you’ll practice diving with enriched air. If so, you’ll need an enriched air-dedicated cylinder. Check with your instructor for details.
